Green Makers Initiative

I feel that we have always been conscious about the environment and sustainability in our every day life but only recently did we start looking at our artistic practice.

In 2022 we joined the Green Makers Initiative.

"Working with the EDRF funded Low Carbon Devon project at University of Plymouth, MAKE Southwest (formerly Devon Guild of Craftsmen) we have launched an exciting new Green Maker Initiative. We are asking makers to sign a pledge to improve their environmental actions over time through a series of simple commitments. This will support them in reducing their environmental impact each year".

This is an ongoing journey for us to look at all areas of our artistic practise and see where we can improve. This doesn't happen overnight and some things are easier to change than others but it is a commitment that we feel is extremely important.

For example the energy used for our kilns & studio is supplied by "Good Energy" We chose this company for the fact that they provide 100% certified renewable electricity generated in the UK from Sun, Wind & Water, no green washing.

Our main supplier of glass is a "B Corp" company, this means they have been certified by the B Corp Standard & meet a high standard of social & environmental impact, they are also working towards Net zero.

As part of this initiative we also attended a workshop with Katie Treggiden of "Making Design Circular" fame. This has given us many more ideas on how to move our practise forward and has positively impacted the way think regarding sustainability going forward. We are now looking at our packaging & delivery.
