A Passion for Glass & Print

Terry meets Julie is the name encompassing two artists working in collaboration under one name. The duo was created from a passion for print (Terry Stedman) & an obsession for Artistic Glass (Julie Stedman) The artistic name came about firstly that we are Terry & Julie and secondly because of the Kinks song “Waterloo Sunset” where “Terry meets Julie” which stuck with us since we first meet in the early 80’s.

Although they have worked individually for many years Terry meets Julie is where their art forms combine together and at the same time can be completely separate.

Terry has worked in print since leaving school, he started his 4 year apprenticeship at Exeter Print College, after which he went on to sign his indentures with James Townsend & Sons Label Printers in Exeter. Originally as a LetterPress Compositor evolving into Litho Platemaking then progressing to Technical and Quality Management rolls within many areas of the Print Packaging profession working with the industry market leaders. However his real love has always been for the more traditional print methods like Screen, Lino, Letterpress and Woodcut.

Julie has a long history working with glass, after being a mosaic artist for 2 years she started Opus Mosaic (Gallery & Mosaic Centre) in 1999 creating bespoke mosaic products and artistic mosaic pieces. Being commissioned by individual private clients to large commercial companies.

In 2008 Julie developed her glass portfolio by including hot/fused glass into her work. To which she has discovered a real passion for creating images in glass. Julie loves the tactile nature of glass and how versatile the medium can be. She finds the colours so vibrant and exciting and is always experimenting and pushing for new ideas in kiln formed glass.

It was a totally natural progression that these two media of print & glass could be combined together to create some stunning results. We are both really inspired by nature and the botanical world.

Our main collaboration is in creating artistic panels of glass that have been enhanced with screen printing elements. We also design and produce other glass pieces including homeware, house decor, house numbers and bespoke bathroom and kitchen tiles. We also teach a range of glass print classes.
